Subclass 132 – Business Talent Visa (Permanent):

This visa caters to people who have successful experience in running a business to operate a new or existing business in Australia or who have capital funding from a member of the Australian Investment Council and are business entrepreneurs. There are two streams in this visa which are Significant Business History Stream and Venture Capital Entrepreneur stream.

Significant Business History Stream

With this Visa:

  • You must have an overall successful business career.
  • You must have a personal net value of at least AUD1.5 million which has been acquired lawfully.
  • Your annual business must be turning over at least AUD3 million for at least 2 of the 4 fiscal years immediately before you have applied for this visa.
  • Your total net assets must be at least AUD400,000 to which you have ownership or at least 10% of the total issued capital in the listed company.
  • You must be under 55 years of age.
  • You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government.
  • You must be invited by the Department to apply.
  • You will be able to work and study in Australia permanently.
  • You will be able to enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme such as Medicare.
  • You will be able to sponsor your eligible relatives to come to Australia.
  • You may be eligible to apply for Australian Citizenship.

Venture Capital Entrepreneur Stream

With this Visa:

  • You must have secured funding of at least AUD1 million from an Australian Venture Capital Firm for a high value business idea.
  • The venture capital firm must be a member of AVCAL (Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association Limited).
  • You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory.
  • You must have entered into a formal agreement with the Venture Capital Firm.
  • You will be able to work and study in Australia permanently.
  • You will be able to enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme such as obtain Medicare.
  • You will be able to sponsor your eligible relatives to come to Australia.
  • You may be eligible to apply for Australian Citizenship.

Subclass 188A – Business Innovation Stream Visa (Temporary):

This visa caters to individuals who have had a successful career or who are an investor from overseas and would like to establish, develop or manage a new or existing business in Australia.

With this Visa:

  • You must be a successful business owner or have had success in an investment career.
  • You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory.
  • You must be invited to apply.
  • You must be under the age of 55 years old.
  • You must have a minimum score of 65 points.
  • You must have an ownership stake in 1 or 2 businesses which must have had a turnover of at least AUD500,000 in the last 2 fiscal years out of the 4 fiscal years.
  • If the company’s annual turnover exceeds $400,000, you must have 30% ownership of shares.
  • If the company’s annual turnover is under $400,000, you must have 51% ownership of shares.
  • If the company is listed, you must have 10% or more ownership of shares.
  • Your total net business and personal assets must be at least AUD800,000.
  • You must operate a new or existing business in Australia.
  • You will be able to stay in Australia for up to 4 years.
  • You will be able to have eligible members of your family come to Australia with you.
  • You may be able to make an application for permanent residency.

Subclass 888A – Business Innovation Stream Visa (Permanent):

This visa is the second stage of the subclass 188A visa.

With this Visa:

  • You must be a holder of a 188A visa, 444 special category visa or 457 Business long stay visa.
  • You must be nominated by the State or Territory government.
  • You must have had an ownership interest in an Australian business for the last 2 years.
  • You must have an ABN (Australian Business Number) and have lodged the BAS (business activity statement) for the last 2 years.
  • You must have ownership in Australia for the last 2 years, shares:
  • Of at least 30%, if the company’s annual turnover exceeds $400,000.
  • Of at least 51%, if the company’s annual turnover is under $400,000.
  • Of at least 10%, if the company is listed in the Australian stock exchange.
  • The business must have had an annual turnover of at least AUD300,000 in the last 12 months before the application is made.
  • You will be able to stay in Australia permanently.
  • You will be able to work and study in Australia permanently.
  • You will be able to enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme such as obtain Medicare.
  • You will be able to sponsor your eligible relatives to come to Australia.
  • You may be eligible to apply for Australian Citizenship.

Subclass 188B – Investor Innovation Stream Visa (Temporary):

This visa caters to individuals who have a successful business record and have high level of management skills. This visa permits those who have maintained an investment in Australia for the last 4 years and has been a holder of a subclass 188A visa for the last 2 years.

With this Visa:

  • You must have high level of success in business.
  • You must have for at least 1 year in the last 5 fiscal years immediately before the invitation, have directly managed either a qualifying business which you are a partner or 10% owner or have eligible investment funds of at least AUD1.5 million whether on your own, with a partner or your partner alone.
  • You must have total net family assets of at least AUD2.25 million for the last 2 fiscal years immediately before you are invited to make an application.
  • You must meet the pass mark in the business innovation and investment points test.
  • You must be under 55 years of age.
  • You will be able to carryout business and investment activities in Australia.
  • You will be able to have eligible members of your family come to Australia with you.
  • You may be able to make an application for a permanent stream.

Subclass 888B – Investor Stream Visa (Permanent):

This visa caters to individuals who holds a 188B visa. This is the secondary stage of the business investor stream which permits those individuals to continue their investment and business activities in Australia.

  • You must be continually nominated by the State or Territory in which your subclass 188B relates.
  • You or your partner must have resided in the nominated State for at least 2 years.

Subclass 188C – Significant Investor Stream Visa (Temporary):

This visa caters to individuals who would like to invest in Australian businesses and companies. This visa does not permit investors to invest in residential real estate as it strictly limits the investor to invest indirectly in residential property through manged funds. The investment is not to be used as security or collateral for loans. The investment fund is utilised for investment in emerging companies listed in the Australian stock exchange.

With this Visa:

  • You must invest at least AUD5 million in venture capital.
  • The approved managed funds must invest in emerging companies listed in the Australian stock exchange.
  • At least AUD500,000 of venture capital is invested in start ups and small private companies.
  • At least AUD3 million of your investment could be in managed funds whereby the managed funds can invest in a range of assets including companies listed on the Australian stock exchange, Australian corporate bonds or notes, annuities and commercial real estate.
  • You can be of any age.
  • You have functional English or you could be exempt and pay the second instalment.
  • You do not need to meet points requirement.
  • You must be invited to make an application.
  • You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory.
  • You must have a genuine intention to live in the State or Territory of who has nominated you.
  • You may be eligible to make an application for permanent residency.

Subclass 888C – Significant Investor Stream Visa (Permanent):

Subclass 188D – Premium Investor Stream Visa (Temporary):

This visa caters for individuals who have the ability to invest at least AUD15 million in Australian Investment and philanthropic contributions.

With this Visa:

  • You must have at least AUD15 million in net assets.
  • You must make a complying premium investment of at least AUD15 million.
  • You must have a genuine intention to maintain and hold the investment for the period of the life of the visa.

  • You will be able to carryout business and investment activities in Australia.
  • You will be able to stay for up to 4 years in Australia.
  • You will be able to have eligible members of your family come to Australia with you.
  • You may be able to apply for permanent residency if you have maintained an investment in Australia for at least 1 year during the period of which you hold this visa.
