About this Visa
The Subclass 417 Visa allows tourists aged between 18 to 30 years of age, and Canadian, French and Irish citizens of 18 to 35 years of age to have an extended holiday in Australia while working short-term. This visa is valid for 12 months and allows multiple entries and exits from the country. Visa holders can work for up to six months with any employer and study for up to four months. Work for up to 12 months is possible in certain types of specified work in regional areas.
A second Working Holiday visa may be granted to those applicants who complete work in specified work within regional Australia. From July 219 a third Working Holiday visa may be granted to a visa holder who meets specified work requirements.
You must hold a passport from the following countries to be eligible:
- Republic of Cyprus
- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (including British National Overseas passport holders)
- Republic of Ireland
- Republic of Korea
- Taiwan (other than an official or diplomatic passport)
- The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
You Must Also:
- Be 18 to 30 years of age
- Apply from outside of Australia
- Not be accompanied by any dependant children
- Not have previously entered Australia on either a subclass 462 or 417. If you have previously entered on a subclass 417 visa you may be eligible for a second Working Holiday visa.

If you are eligible for a second Working Holiday Visa you must provide the following evidence:
- Working full time, 5 days a week for a continuous 3 month period OR
- Working less than 5 days in a combination of full-time, part-time or piecework rate which adds up to five days a week OR
- Working less than five days a week for a period of longer than 3 calendar months.
- You may work with one employer or several spread over the period of your stay in Australia
